It is quite normal to set up a special password for a user account when you are using OS X on your Mac. After all, you can never be too cautious when there are lots of important data being involved. However, the problem is that updating the password quite often can lead to confusion of which password being used. If you happen to update the password and you totally forget the new one – but still remember the old – you won’t be able to access your Macbook. But there is no need to worry as there are always solutions for such problem like this.

The first thing you need to do is stay calm and don’t get panicky. Pressing different buttons here and there won’t help at all; it will only make things worse. Second, you need to ensure that everything works just well. All you have to do is to go into the recovery mode in OS X and you can relax from there. And when you have reset the new password, make sure that you now have the backup. Save it somewhere safe – but not in your Mac – which allows you easy access when needed.

Here are the steps to go into the recovery mode and reset password on Mac OS X:

1. You have to restart your computer. While doing so, make sure that you hold CMD and R buttons together until you see the Apple logo shows up on the monitor. If you do it right, you will be in the recovery mode in no time.

5. For the optional feature, you can choose the hint for the password. Simply choose the option for ‘Enter a new password hint’ if you want to make it safer and easier to access.

6. Once you have set it up, click the Save button. Afterward, you should be able to see a message saying that the password has been reset but the keychain hasn’t. All you need to do is click OK and then you can close all the windows.
